Per the Rules...
| Quote: | F. Winning Bids and Signing Players
After 48 hours of inactivity, a player’s thread is locked and he is assigned to the owner of the highest bid. Once a player is won, take into account that this figure counts against your team salary cap, and you have one less open 60-man roster spot. The auction continues in the manner described above until the last thread with a bid is locked. |
In other words, maybe Dontrelle can play for the St. Paul Saints. _________________

I was under the impression that we can bid on players until the draft order is set... _________________ Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand. ~Leo Durocher |

For what it's worth, that's worded terribly. We need to set a date when it starts getting slow. Not just leave it for arbitrary rules interpretations. I mean, we put the new official start dates in the rules, and since we have from Monday after Thanksgiving until early January, I'd think leaving the auction open for 3-4 weeks with an official end date is the way to go. At that point, instituting the rule that the auction ends with the last active bid being closed sounds fair.
I'm not going to comment on this year. Rules are rules. But, going forward and since we've labeled beginning dates for everything, I think the auction/RFA should probably have listed end dates that are only bent with active bids still going on.
Queue up someone blasting my take because that's what normally happens when things like this arise. _________________ Pawtucket Southpaws

I'm not sure what's unclear.
Once all open bids are closed and there is a lapse where no bids exist the auction is over. This happened days ago.
The rosters have been frozen for the draft. _________________ Season 1:

The draft order is set when the last player comes off the board. That happened a few days ago, and is why you can't bid on him |

In reality it is set, I just can't create the entire thing instantaneously. It was set the moment that Herrera came off the board. I have plenty of news articles that will back up my recent lack of free time FWIW.
Could it be written clearer? Sure. I don't see how it could be interpreted any other way though and I definitely don't see how it is an arbitrary ruling. Randomly setting dates is what gets us in trouble. This is a fluid rule that requires zero communication, which I find ideal. We've been handling it this way for quite awhile now I believe. Fact is everything in the rule book isn't written with exact precision. If someone wants to take a stab to doing just that, be my guest. In fact, setting up a committee of guys to do a review of it would be fantastic. Who wants to spearhead it? _________________

Saved him from himself.
This has come up several times this offseason where my revised rules have been worded really shitty and led to confusion. Again, I would ask that people try to review the rules when we've got league downtime (not now, but example: between draft and regular season) so these problems can be addressed before they become problems. _________________ Season 4 Sparky Anderson Wild Card
