What is the timeline?
I'm getting married on Friday so I won't be really around until Aug 17. My guess is its probably not practical. |
Congrats Matt. _________________ Pawtucket Southpaws

As a happily married man for 26 years I have an observation:
DON'T DO IT....RUN.......RUN FAR AWAY............FAR FAR AWAY
Then again if she is willing to do the have and hold, till death due you part with YOU even with your Monte obsession, then maybe it's not that bad of an idea.
I congratulate you both, and wish you many many years of happiness. |

13 Confirmed Teams
Waco - In again
Montreal - In again
Cleveland - In again
Aurora - In again
Anchorage - In again
New Hampshire - In again
Toronto - In again
Packwood - In again
Cuyahoga - In again
Durham - In again
Pawtucket - In again
Hollywood - In
Westwood - In
3 Maybes.
Baskerville - Soft yes?
Providence - Maybe?
Degrassi - Maybe?
Tim never responded and said he wanted in again... and Myron hasn't posted anything either.
I'm taking Rauseo's post as a soft yes, but we'll need some clarification.
If only 1 of those 3 joins, I think we keep the rosters the same as last year.
If 2 of the 3 join, we would have 15 teams... when I was setting up my league, I experimented a little bit to see what would happen with an odd number of teams.... everyone just gets a bye week. If we went with 15 teams, I would vote for keeping the roster composition the same.
If all 3 join, we'd have 16... but with 32 NFL teams, why not keep 2 QB each?
In a 12 team league, guys like Hasselbeck and Jason Campbell are going to be 2nd QBs... not much difference than using Josh Freeman, Delhomme and Trent Edwards in a 16-team league. And with the auction format, the team who gets someone like Sam Bradford can make sure he gets Feeley as well. _________________ Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand. ~Leo Durocher

| As it was it was very very hard to win when your QB had a bye. If we went down to only one or two backups with a job that would mean having your QB hurt means 0 points instead of trotting out whoever the raiders were starting. I like deep leagues but there is a lot of value in being able to pick SOMEONE up off the waiver wire when you need to. I'd advocate for 1 QB. |

What Jonah said.
Also not a big fan of an odd number of teams, but I guess its better than having to leave anyone out... |

I loved the QB scarcity last year.... but beyond that, it wasn't doomsday when someone got hurt.
With the bench spots we have, you can carry some of those QB handcuffs. Also, I think it promotes trading when the need arises. I went out and got Sanchez after Hasselbeck got hurt... trading for one of those fringe guys didn't cost me a lot.
Everyone's QB has a bye week, so it's not like it's unfair to anyone.
The alternative is having a deep league like ours... with a bunch of useful QBs littering the waiver wire and bench spots around the league.
I really like the 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 Slash construction and loved the way that it made you dig for talent and think hard about how you wanted to construct your team. We're all smart and capable owners and I'd hate to dumb down the league. _________________ Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand. ~Leo Durocher |

PS, I miscounted... we only have 13 confirmed teams (not 14). _________________ Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand. ~Leo Durocher |

Nobody is suggesting we 'dumb' down the league, just simply saying that when you add more teams it breaks the 2QB model. When you start pushing 14 (and definitely 16) teams you get to the point where only 4 (or 0) teams can have a backup at all. Which means you pretty much auto lose two weeks when your QBs are on a bye. And thats not interesting in the slightest. If we end up with 12 teams I would LOVE to keep 2 QBs, but any number beyond that doesn't do it for me.
Also, I'm not sure 13 teams is even possible. I'm not sure 15 works either (we only have a 14 week season so one team wouldnt get a bye). The more I think about this the more it seems like we need even numbers. Feel free to lay the math out for me that makes it work though. |

| I think calling allowing teams to field a full roster of players even during bye weeks "dumbing down the league" is an absolutely ridiculous mischaracterization. |

Ok, the next step before figuring out roster issues is determining number of teams.
We have 13 confirmed for sure, nothing from Prov or Degrassi (I'm counting them out for now), and a potentially interested Rauseo.
In my mind that gives us two options:
1) Go with 12 teams, letting the two new joiners (Hollywood/Westwood) either sort out who plays or split a team (ESPN has functionality for this, and it might actually be a good solution. Or one of these guys could team up with a different owner).
2) Go with 14 teams, assuming Rauseo still wants to play.
Can the guys who would be impacted weigh in here? I'm going on vacation starting Friday and would love to have a draft date and what not locked down by then. Thanks |
